57th session

The fifty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 4 to 15 March 2013.

THEMES

Priority theme: Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls

Review theme: The equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including caregiving in the context of HIV/AIDS (agreed conclusions from the fifty-third session)

Forum of women’s NGOs of Kyrgyzstan holded 2 sessions:  Session on  “VAW in rural areas of Central Asia” – 4 March 2013

 

Session description: Remaining big distance from political declaration to actual implementation in the elimination of VAW is warning and requires coherent and effective involvement and financial commitments from States, donors. Goals of the session are to discuss level of involvement of governments, Parliaments, women’s movement, donors in elimination of VAW, share successful models of partnership of diverse actors in addressing VAW.  Speakers will focus on States’, Law enforcement bodies’, Parliaments role, role of local self-governance structures, Women’s organizations, UN bodies as well as donors’ role in access to justice.  Session participants based on discussion will develop a joint statement on shared responsibilities.

Session on    « Sharing responsibilities for VAW elimination»- 5 March  2013

Session description: VAW in rural areas is a big challenge for women. Existing strategies and plans are not efficient and not adequately funded. Women’s movement is almost the only actor fighting on the ground with VAW in rural areas. Young women’s issues will be one of the themes in our session. This session is focused on specific problems like bride kidnapping inKyrgyzstan, young rural women and HIV/AIDS and VAW, domestic violence, rural women’s access to justice in Central Asia and methods and tools used by women’s groups inCentral Asia. During the session positive experience on addressing VAW in villages ofCentral Asia, including creation of coordinated community response to VAW, help desks work in villages in complex with other service against VAW will be presented.  An analysis of the VAW in rural communities, good practices and recommendations based on papers of speakers will be presented. Participants will discuss recommendations to State, Parliaments and donors ofCentral Asia. In the end of the session a presentation of a joint statement to CSW on VAW in villages will be presented and signed.
