59th session

The fifty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York, tentatively scheduled for 9-20 March 2015. Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world attend the session.

The Commission will undertake a review of progress made in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 20 years after its adoption at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. The review (Beijing+20) will also include the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly, the first five-year assessment conducted after the adoption of the Platform for Action, which highlighted further actions and initiatives.

The session will also address current challenges that affect the implementation of the Platform for Action, as well as opportunities for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women in the post-2015 development agenda.

Forum of women’s NGO’s will hold parrarel event on 59 session: “Women’s rights: opportunities for sustainable  development for women in post 2015”. 

At the session on “Women’s rights: opportunities for sustainable  development for women of in post 2015” attention will be given to challenges and achievements  during the past 20 years of implementation of the BPFA and to opportunities for improvement of women’s status of women’s rights in the new framework of  development in Post 2015 period. Speakers will come from women’s networks, academia, state bodies, and international organizations.

The session will allow to provide space to Central Asian women voice and assessment of the BPFA implementation, space for women to discuss new perspectives and vision of the future. Debates will be held on gained experience and new joint women’s positions  for further advocacy and  advancement of women’s positions in the Post 2015 processes.

New strategy of the sustainable  development should ensure substantial means of implementation for women’s status improvement and reaching gender equality, introduce accountability on  development results  for women’s rights.

Speakers will share ideas on better Financing of women’s rights and needs. Strengthening women’s organizations capacity, strengthening of application of new informational technologies by women’s organizations.

Participants will discuss the call for strong and well financed commitments for women’s rights implementation, and strengthening of women’s role as  development drivers, for strong mechanism of monitoring with clear progress indicators.

Participants of the session will discuss recommendations related to further advocacy and lobbying of women’s rights and vision into the process of future SDGs determination.

Partnership for  development for women’s organizations was not widely accessible and thus women were left behind decision-making processes regarding countries  development issues, there was lack of capacity building for women’s organizations as equal development actors.
