Women and Security



During 2017-2018, the Forum of Women’s NGOs of Kyrgyzstan (FWNGO) expanded the capacity of local ethnic women’s NGOs and women’s groups, deputies of local councils, youth groups and local activists working in the field of gender equality to establish cooperation with stakeholders at the national and local levels. Collaboration was carried out through joint discussion and incorporation of gender issues into local development plans and programs. Practice has shown that women’s participation in decision-making at the local level strengthens women’s leadership, increases their ability to influence politics in favor of peace and security and gender issues.

Representatives of women’s organizations took part in trainings of the FWNGO on women’s rights, UN Security Council Resolution 1325, women’s participation in political issues, and the fight against violence against women. At the initiative of the FWNGO, regular meetings of women’s NGOs organized to discuss issues of security and peace and gender issues.

The joint activities of the FWNGO and women’s organizations aimed at raising the awareness of women and strengthening their confidence that they will be able to participate in the next local elections and advance the agenda on women’s rights and opportunities.





During 2014-2015, the Forum of Women’s NGOs of Kyrgyzstan (FWNGO) took part in the partnership project “Women in Peace Building”. There were partner’s organizations of FWNGO in this project: AKTED, PF «DIA» (Osh region), NGO «Women Support Center».

The overall objective of the project was to support the country’s potential in conflict prevention and contribution to peacebuilding in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The main objective of the activity was to increase the potential of women for their greater role in conflict prevention and in the process of peace-building in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The participants of the project were women’s organizations, women’s groups and their members, government officials at the district and regional levels (in particular in the south of the country) and youth.

As a result of the activities of the project, the FWNGO strengthened the advocacy capacity and relationships of women’s organizations in the Chui and Issyk-Kul regions, as well as their contribution to the implementation and monitoring of the National Plan for UN Security Council Resolution 1325.

The FWNGO collected data on women’s organizations in the Chui and Issyk-Kul regions and consolidated these data; organized a regular exchange of information between women’s organizations; conducted an assessment of the capacity of women’s organizations; organized trainings for women’s organizations. As part of the activities, monitoring of the implementation of the National Action Plan of UNSC Resolution 1325 was made. Women’s organizations Forum partners met with key stakeholders on issues of peace and security at the local level.
