Program “Resisting gender-based violence in the name of culture and religion”

Program "Resisting gender-based violence in the name of the culture and religion"

In connection with the growing influence of fundamentalism, women’s human rights defenders are becoming more active and organized to find a solution to the problem of the destructive requirements of fundamentalism, to protect the rights of women and girls, both in law and in society itself, to conduct alternative dialogues based on gender equality. Using religion or culture as an excuse, conservative groups promote reactionary laws and traditional practices that degrade women and keep criminals from getting punished. The rapid and intensified mobilization of forces against women’s rights in the name of culture and religion and the further justification for violent actions against their rights and bodies can only be overcome and defeated only by a stronger, determined and strategic alliance of women’s rights organizations and activists.
