Program «Women's participation in political processes»

In order for the voices of women to be heard, for the interests and rights of women to be taken into account and implemented within the framework of development plans and programs at all levels, the Forum of Women’s NGOs of Kyrgyzstan created the program “Women’s Participation in Political Processes” in 2006. Our program is a comprehensive strategy for promotion of women’s participation in political processes at all levels, in decision-making bodies at all levels.

It is essential to participate in the program:

  • Active participation of women's organizations and women's groups in promoting women in political processes
  • Active participation of women themselves

The issue of women's participation in political processes are:

  • The issue of women’s human rights (Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Beijing Platform for Action, Convention on the Political Rights of Women, Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women)
  • The issue of improving the status of women and taking into account the interests of women in state strategies and programs, local plans and development programs
  • The issue of quality management at all levels
  • The issue of ensuring sustainable development at all levels
  • The issue of strengthening democracy

Today we need:

  • Overcome barriers in the form of stereotypes, patriarchal norms and traditions
  • Ensure that the interests and needs of women are taken into account in government programs and local development plans and programs
  • Increase the number of women in political processes at the national and local levels: Jogorku Kenesh, government, aiyl keneshes, aiyl okmotu, ministries and departments, agencies, etc.
  • Achieve fair equality for women and protect women’s rights
  • Actively participate in political processes
  • Gain knowledge and skills to participate in political processes at all levels
  • Create partnerships at different levels to promote ideas

Program goals:

  • Promoting women's rights to participate in political processes
  • Involving public women's organizations across the country to promote women's political rights

How does program work?

  • Public women’s organizations and women’s groups are united in a one network within the framework of the Forum of Women’s NGOs of Kyrgyzstan “Women’s Participation of  in Political Processes”
  • Women within the program increase their capacity through participation in seminars, trainings, webinars, conferences in various formats
  • Women’s organizations and women’s groups work closely with women activists who have a desire to participate in political processes
  • As part of the program, public women’s organizations and women’s groups increase their capacity to promote women for participation in political processes
  • Program participants jointly conduct propaganda and information campaigns among the population, government agencies and other organizations of gender equality and women’s political rights
  • The network of women’s organizations and women’s groups support women participating in political processes through involvement in joint actions, joint projects, actions, expression of common positions within partnerships
  • The program creates partnerships between a network of women’s organizations and women
