Regional Forum on Sustainable Development
RFSD will held in the UN office in Geneva 29-30 Murch 2023. With its predominantly high- and middle-income countries of North America, Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia as well as Israel, the Regional Forum has engaged member States in the exchange on regional priority issues of prosperity, innovation, inclusion, gender equality and environmental sustainability, climate change and sustainable consumption and production, with a positive impact on SDG implementation at the national level.
Asia-Pasific Forum on Sustainable Development
The 10th APFSD will be organized from 27-30 March 2023 under the theme “Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels in Asia and the Pacific” in Bangkok, at the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC). Additionally, the APFSD will feed into the 2023 SDG Summit by providing a regional platform to comprehensively review progress at the mid-point of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and identify priorities and solutions for accelerating the implementation of the SDGs in the remaining years to 2030.
In alignment with the focus of the 2023 HLPF, the Forum will assess progress on the SDGs under review: Goal 6 (Clean water and sanitation); Goal 7 (Affordable and clean energy); Goal 9 (Industry. innovation, and infrastructure); Goal 11 (Sustainable cities and communities) and Goal 17 (Partnership for the Goals). The Forum will also support the presentation of Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) for the 2023 HLPF.
Other stakeholders such as civil society, youth, businesses, international and regional organizations, academia, parliamentarians and local governments have participated in and contributed to the Regional Forum in manifold ways, making it a participatory and inclusive platform. The Regional Forums on Sustainable Development for the UNECE Region are convened by UNECE, in close collaboration with the other entities of the regional UN system in the framework of the Regional Collaborative Platform (RCP).
What is the background?
The Regional Forum on Sustainable Development was established by the Economic Commission for Europe at its sixty-seventh session in April 2017, with the aim to create “a regional mechanism to follow-up and review the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”
Creating a space for UNECE member States for peer learning and the exchange of policy experiences in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals
Providing a regional overview of progress and challenges in implementation that would complement reports at the global level
Enhancing regional and subregional cooperation and addressing transboundary issues
Providing a platform for the participation of all relevant stakeholders, including international and regional organizations, civil society, academia and the private sector
What is the process?
The report of each Regional Forum provides the region’s official input to the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the UN’s central platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the global level.
Each of the five UN Regional Commissions is convening annual Regional Forums in their respective region to share experiences and discuss concrete solutions on how to achieve the SDGs (see information on other Regional Forums here).
