Increasing women’s participation in local decision-making

As part of the 65th session of the UN Committee on the Status of Women, the Forum of Women’s NGOs of Kyrgyzstan is holding a parallel session on “Increasing Women’s Participation in Local Decision-making”. The parallel session will take place on March 18, 2021 at 14.30 (Bishkek time) on the virtual platform of the Committee on the Status of Women

The session will explore ways to increase the effectiveness of women’s participation in local decision-making. It will discuss how women can integrate the global agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals into local development plans. The parallel session will result in recommendations on how to strengthen the role of women in local elected bodies.
The session will discuss the following issues:
1. What is the position of women in local government?
2. What are the obstacles to increasing women in local government?
3. What strategies work? Positive experiences.
4. Is there a correlation between the level of women’s representation in local government and the level of inclusion of women’s needs in local strategies and plans?
5. Interaction between women in local government and women’s organizations
6. Are there special public funds to support rural women to participate in political processes?
